Diablo 4 Season 14 does not hand Greater Lair Keys directly from ordinary endgame activities. They sit in the middle of a two-step progression, so players first need regular Lair Keys, then an Initiate boss run. Your Diablo 4 gear and current Torment level both affect how smoothly this process feels, but the basic route is consistent: open an Initiate Hoard, collect the Greater key, and use it for a Greater-tier boss.

How the Greater Key Progression Works

Greater Lair Keys come from the Hoards opened after defeating Initiate Lair Bosses. The boss kill alone is not enough, because the progression material is tied to the Hoard reward.

Greater, Superior, and Group Rewards

Greater Lair Keys open Greater-tier Hoards, including those associated with Duriel, Andariel, Harbinger of Hatred, and the Bloody Butcher. Superior Lair Keys belong to a separate seasonal route connected with the Corrupted Reaper and Deathtoll Chambers. One type cannot replace the other.

Group play can speed up boss clears and increase the amount of boss-specific equipment awarded, but each player needs personal key material for a personal Hoard. Agree on the target before starting and arrive with enough keys for the session.

Why the Keys Matter

Greater bosses are an important part of the Unique and Mythic-quality equipment loop in Season 14. Because any Unique can appear with Mythic quality, these runs are more useful when aimed at a relevant reward pool rather than treated as random material spending.
