The Forbidden Rites Event League is designed around eight challenges that encourage players to experience almost every major stage of POE 2 progression. From optional campaign bosses to Atlas mapping and pinnacle encounters, the objectives are varied enough that simply rushing the story will not complete everything. Having the right POE 2 Items and understanding how the challenges overlap can save a considerable amount of time.
The event opens on September 4, 2026, at 1 PM PDT and operates as a temporary fresh-economy league before characters transition toward the full 1.0 release on December 11. With Patch 0.5.5 bringing no balance changes, players can confidently return to proven builds rather than spending the opening days testing completely new setups. Good POE 2 Items and a familiar playstyle can make the entire challenge route smoother.
Start With the Easy Progress
The first part of the event should focus on challenges that naturally fit into campaign progression.
The Hunter asks players to defeat major optional campaign bosses. These encounters are easy to overlook because they are not always part of the main quest path. However, defeating them during the campaign is much more efficient than returning to old areas later.
The Crowbell in Act 1 and Blackjaw the Remnant in Act 3 are examples of bosses worth watching for. Some optional encounters also contribute permanent character progression, making them useful beyond the challenge itself.
Plan Ascendancy Progress Early
The Ascendant challenge requires all eight Ascendancy Points for your character. This means Trials cannot be left completely out of your leveling plan.
Trial of Chaos has been reworked for Patch 0.5.5, with a stronger focus on killing monsters. The ability to pause and leave between rooms also gives players more control over difficult runs.
Instead of repeatedly forcing a Trial before your character is ready, use the campaign to strengthen your build first. Once your defenses and damage are reliable, return to the Trial and finish the remaining Ascendancy requirements with less frustration.
Turn Ritual Into a Farming Tool
The Riteseeker challenge is closely tied to the event's Ritual mechanics, so mapping should be planned around them from the beginning.
When entering a map with Ritual encounters, consider defeating the Map Boss before finishing the surrounding Rituals. Defeated bosses can appear in later Ritual encounters, resulting in larger battles and potentially much greater Tribute rewards.
Tribute is important because the Ritual Altar can offer items and Omens that contribute to your progression. Rather than running separate maps for challenge progress and currency farming, combine the two whenever possible.
This is one of the simplest ways to make your overall route more efficient.
Use Wildwood Carefully
The Reliquarian and Master challenges make Wildwood especially valuable once you reach the Atlas.
Viridian Wildwood portals allow you to collect different types of wisps, including Primal, Vivid, and Wild. These wisps empower monsters and make maps harder, but they can also increase item rarity and experience.
For a player pushing toward level 90, this can be a useful combination. You can gain experience for The Master while progressing through Wildwood content for The Reliquarian.
The key is choosing encounters that your build can handle consistently. More difficult monsters are only useful when the additional rewards outweigh the risk of dying.
Track Nameless and Atlas Requirements
The Nameless and Cartographer challenges require more deliberate tracking.
The Nameless challenge involves defeating unique Rare Monsters affected by the Nameless order. If you simply run maps without paying attention, you may reach the later stages of the event without completing enough of the required encounters.
The Cartographer is similarly connected to Atlas progression. Rather than treating it as a final cleanup task, keep progressing through your Atlas while working on other objectives.
A simple checklist can prevent unnecessary backtracking.
Prepare for the Final Bosses
The Vanquisher should be treated as a late-game goal. High-tier bosses require considerably more preparation than campaign encounters, so attempting them too early can waste valuable resources.
Use the earlier challenges to build up your character first. Improve your defenses, learn your build's strengths, and make sure your equipment is capable of handling difficult modifiers and boss mechanics.
This is another situation where using a familiar league starter makes sense. You already know how the build behaves, which means you can focus on encounter mechanics rather than learning an entirely new character at the same time.
Make Every Map Count
A good Forbidden Rites route should allow several challenges to progress during the same activities. Campaign bosses can be handled while leveling, Trials can provide Ascendancy Points, Ritual can generate Tribute during mapping, and Wildwood can contribute toward both endgame encounters and level progression. If you need additional resources while preparing your character, Path of Exile 2 Orbs can be useful for improving your equipment and making difficult content more manageable.
The biggest advantage in this event is preparation. Know which challenges are easy to combine, keep an eye on objectives that require specific encounters, and avoid leaving everything until the final days. With a reliable build, sensible farming route, and simple checklist, you can make steady progress toward all eight Forbidden Rites rewards without wasting time on unnecessary backtracking.
